TROPICAL BLOOD
LOFI REGGAETON

Tropical Blood is the latest album from Portland producer Luvjonez. This project was born from a collection of original beats Luvjonez had been developing since 2019, with the intention of expanding them into a fully realized album. After collaborating with Bryvox on several individual tracks on past albums, Luvjonez admired his skills as a studio engineer, multi-instrumentalist and multi-genre music producer. He was the perfect person to invite as a collaborator on this project to help shape an entire EP with live instruments and studio wizardry.

What began as a collection of unreleased studio sessions by Luvjonez, evolved with lush production, original instrumentation, electronic textures, and detailed sound design from collaborative sessions as Luvjonez and Bryvox worked in the studio together. They developed a sonic world that Luvjonez describes as LOFI REGGAETÓN, blending instrumental elements of hip hop, bomba, reggaetón, dembow, dream pop, vocal chops, ambient electronic textures and hazy synths.

Created entirely in their Portland home studios, Tropical Blood sonically moves between late-night headphone listening and slow-motion dance-floor energy, balancing nostalgia with a sense of experimentation and futurism. As a shout out to the artists cultural backgrounds, some of the album’s song titles draw inspiration from shared tropical fruits, flowers, and trees that grow in both Puerto Rico and the Filipino islands. Other song titles are inspired by specific memories and places connected to Luvjonez’ Taino Puerto Rican ancestral roots and family history.

Grant funding from the Music Oregon Echo Fund, gave the artists more time and resources to move beyond individual tracks and one-off collaborations. This allowed them to evolve their sketches and demos into a full, 11-track original album that included analog production, live instruments, chopped drum loops, lush soundscapes, and innovative studio techniques. The result is a deeply personal and cohesive body of work that captures the chemistry between two producers and the possibilities that emerge when an idea is given the space to fully develop into a shared musical language.
